POSTERS

World Standards Day
Poster Competition: Shortlisted in top 20 entries
Year: 2012

Design Concept
Standards establish order and organize. Standards are ingenious and are meant to simplify and fasten decision making.  Standards strengthen on recognition, reinforcement and re-use. Standards are carefully designed to be effective across boundaries and culture.
Standards are best practices that help mankind operate most efficiently in his ecosystem (man-made or natural). When these standards are used creatively and effectively our precious energy resources can be efficiently utilized leading to minimal or no waste. The artwork uses Tangram puzzle game as a metaphor. ‘Tangram’ like ‘Standards’ is ingenious. The puzzle contains the inherent rules of the game that can be understood and therefore are effective across cultural boundaries. The seven shapes can be efficiently reused to create a million possibilities.
The various shapes depicted on the poster are simple and recognizable. They depict -
 ‘Man and woman’ as the foundation of society.
 ‘A Tick mark and a Cross mark’ that depict right and wrong.
 ‘Industry icon’ depicts multitude.
 The phone and the boat icons depict telecommunication, locomotive and technology.
 The incomplete aeroplane on the top is a shape in making with the red piece to be integrated next. The remaining red component prompts the user to complete the picture
 The row of assembled square frames on the bottom left corner depicts the common blueprint that the puzzle comes from and indicates the possibilities for future.
